Align

Aligns selected entities horizontally and/or vertically.

This function allows you to align selected entities horizontally and/or vertically according to the Align Settings.

Procedure

To align entities horizontally and/or vertically:

1. Select  Modify ► Align or click the icon in the Modify toolbar.  

2. The first time this function is used, the Align Settings display so you can select the desired settings.

• If you select the Always show checkbox, the Align Settings dialog will display each time the Align function is selected.

• If you do not select the Always show checkbox, the settings you have selected will be used whenever you use the Align function in the current drawing.

• To reset your Align options, go to Settings ► Align Settings.

3. Specify if you want to align the selection set horizontally and/or vertically by selecting the appropriate checkbox.  

4. Once you have selected the horizontal and/or vertical align style, the options are made available and you can select the radio button to select the align position. The example below shows three squares, which have been aligned horizontally to the left, centre and right.

• If the squares are not evenly spaced and you select to horizontally align them using the Distribute option, the selected entities are spaced evenly as shown below.

• • If you select the To Grid option, the Distribute option is disabled. You can then select to align to the left, centre or right grid point. The point about which the alignment is made will move to nearest horizontal grid line to that point.

 The example below has been aligned to the right.

The example below shows three squares, which have been aligned vertically to the top, centre and bottom.

• • If the squares are not evenly spaced and you select to vertically align them using the Distribute option, the selected entities are spaced evenly as shown below.

• • The To Grid option works the same as when the horizontal option is selected. You can now select to align the selection set either to the top, centre or bottom.  The selection jumps to the nearest grid line to your selection.

• You can also use combinations of the vertical and horizontal options.

The three central boxes will be repositioned so that they are equally spread between the top and bottom boxes and aligned with the left most box.

4. Press the [Esc] key to deselect the selection set.
