3D Shapes

This function allows you to draw a polygon mesh by extruding an existing curve entity in an indicated direction and length.

Mesh entities are always drawn with CONTINUOUS line type.

Procedure

  1. You are prompted to:

Indicate entity to use as the profile

  1. Click on any entity in the drawing.

  2. You are prompted to:

Indicate first point of axis of extrusion

  1. Indicate any point in the drawing.

  2. You are prompted to:

Indicate second point of axis of extrusion

  1. Indicate any point in the drawing.

Usually you would use POINT snap mode to snap to the first and second points that define the extrusion axis in 3D.

  1. A mesh representing the extruded surface mesh is added to the drawing. It is extruded by the distance between the two points, and in the direction from the first point to the second point.

Extruding Perpendicular to the Entity's Plane

In the procedure above, when you are asked to indicate the points for the extrusion axis:

  1. Right-click and select Extrude normal to entity from the popup context menu.

  1. You are prompted to:

  1. Type in  the length (in drawing units) and press {Enter].

  2. The extruded mesh is created "normal" (perpendicular) to the entity's plane.
